How Suya Truck Started and Why People Love Our Kind of Suya

Order Abuja
Order Lagos

If you’ve ever lived in Nigeria, you know the smell of Suya before you even see it. That mix of smoke, spice, and roasted meat floating through the evening air is more than food; it’s culture. We grew up on that. And for us, Suya has always been more than a late-night craving; it’s a taste of home.

But somewhere along the way, we noticed something missing.

Suya is one of Nigeria’s most loved street foods, yet the experience hasn’t evolved much. You’d buy it from the same street corner, with the same smoky magic, but not always the same quality or hygiene. Sometimes you’d get amazing Suya; other times, it was just not the same.

We loved Suya too much to leave it that way.

How It All Started

Suya Truck TC, Abuja.

In 2023, we decided to do something a little crazy: start a food truck focused entirely on Suya. Not shawarma, not burgers, just Suya, done right. We called it Suya Truck because that’s literally what it was, a moving kitchen bringing Suya to people across Abuja.

We didn’t have fancy billboards or influencers shouting our name. What we had was fire (literally), spice, and an obsession with consistency. Every stick of Suya that left that truck had to taste like the one before: tender, juicy, well-seasoned, and grilled to perfection.

Word spread faster than we expected. Soon, people were lining up not just because of the Suya, but because of how we made them feel, the energy, the vibe, the attention to detail. It was Suya, but with a new experience around it.

That was when we realised something: Nigerians didn’t just want Suya. They wanted Suya they could trust.

Evolving Beyond Suya

As we grew, we started experimenting with more ways to bring that same Suya fire into other meals. We added burritos, tacos, and a few grill-inspired dishes that carried the same bold, smoky flavours we started with.

People loved it. It wasn’t about changing what Suya meant to us; it was about celebrating it in new forms. Whether you were biting into a Suya burrito or a plate of Suya tacos, you were still tasting the same spirit that started on that truck.

Suya remained our heartbeat, but now we had new ways to express it.

What Makes Us Different

We’re not trying to reinvent Suya. We’re just showing what Suya can become when you care about every detail, from the cuts of meat to the hygiene, the spices, the presentation, and the experience.

We still respect the traditional spots that inspired us. They’re part of our story. But we believe Suya deserves more recognition. It deserves to be seen as proudly Nigerian street food with the same love we give jollof or pepper soup.

At Suya Truck, every order is a mix of tradition and evolution. You get the same smoky Suya you grew up loving, but cleaner, more consistent, and made for today’s Nigeria.

The Road Ahead

From that first night in Abuja to serving people in Lagos, one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to great food and the community that’s grown around it. We’re still experimenting, still improving, and still obsessed with making sure that the next bite you take is just as memorable as the first.

Because for us, Suya isn’t just food, it’s a feeling.

And Suya Truck is how we keep that feeling alive, one stick, one wrap, one plate at a time.
